Letter from the Executive Director
Child Safe House

It is always difficult, but rewarding to write this letter for the Annual Report. To look back over the past year and think about how many children’s lives were changed forever because there was a safe place to talk and someone to listen. Statistics tell us that one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before reaching age 18. All of these children need and deserve an oppor-tunity to be heard and receive assistance in beginning the healing process.

Thanks to the tremendous support and commitment of the Board of Director’s, the Program and Fundraising Committees, Child Safe staff and our community partners, FY 2012 was again a banner year for fundraising and contributions! This support enables us to

continue to serve child abuse victims and assure they do not ‘fall through the cracks’ of the system designed to protect them.

Child Safe is excited to have a new LOGO which better depicts that we serve children of all ages. This logo was created by three members of the DECA Club—Tayler Gero, Megan Lollis and Elena Sharp, along with their sponsor, Amanda Mills. These three young ladies are conducting an awareness campaign for Child Safe and the entire DECA Club has ‘adopted’ Child Safe as one of their charities for the year! How fortunate we are to have these

talented young people promoting and supporting our organization.

As we welcome new Board members and say good-bye to others, I want to challenge each of you to ‘imagine a world with no child abuse—no more broken bones, bruises, broken hearts, loss of innocence’. Imagine an end to sexual abuse—zero girls molested by the age of eighteen, instead of one in four; zero boys molested by the age of eighteen, instead of one in six.

I know most of you don’t believe it’s possible. And yet, it is

possible if we believe and put forth our strongest efforts. Polio

has ended in this country; slavery has ended; women have the

right to vote; and no one’s forced to the back of the bus.

Change happens.
